UC
Berkeley has long-standing codes of conduct for students and faculty,
which provide a broad ethical and cultural framework for those
members of the campus community. These specific bullet points
are intended as illustrative guidance for a code of conduct that
applies to campus supervisors and managers.
In
our capacity as supervisors and managers we will:
Show
RESPECT for
others by:
Treating
others as courteously as they would like to be treated
Being
civil, welcoming to differences, and protective of the privacy of
others
Working
cooperatively, giving appropriate credit to the contributions of others
Be
FAIR by:
Handling similar matters consistently, with justice and due process
Utilizing equitable and nondiscriminatory management practices
Have
COMPASSION for
others while performing our duties by:
Understanding
that our actions impact the lives of others
Being
aware of and responsive to individual needs and feelings
Demonstrate
TRUSWORTHINESS by:
Saying
what we mean and doing what we say, modeling clear, honest and full
communications and disclosure
Employing
good judgment and displaying ethical behavior in decision making,
never inducing
or compelling others to take part in unethical, improper or illegal
conduct
Avoiding conflicts of interest, ensuring that outside interests, affiliations,
or activities do not
influence, or appear to influence, decision-making, research activities,
or job performance
