""""Code of Conduct for Supervisors and Managers

UC Berkeley has long-standing codes of conduct for students and faculty, which provide a broad ethical and cultural framework for those members of the campus community. These specific bullet points are intended as illustrative guidance for a code of conduct that applies to campus supervisors and managers.

In our capacity as supervisors and managers we will:

 

Show RESPECT for others by:

  • Treating others as courteously as they would like to be treated
  • Being civil, welcoming to differences, and protective of the privacy of others
  • Working cooperatively, giving appropriate credit to the contributions of others

 

Be FAIR by:

  • Handling similar matters consistently, with justice and due process
  • Utilizing equitable and nondiscriminatory management practices

 

Have COMPASSION for others while performing our duties by:

  • Understanding that our actions impact the lives of others
  • Being aware of and responsive to individual needs and feelings

 

Demonstrate TRUSWORTHINESS by:

  • Saying what we mean and doing what we say, modeling clear, honest and full
    communications and disclosure
  • Employing good judgment and displaying ethical behavior in decision making, never inducing
    or compelling others to take part in unethical, improper or illegal conduct
  • Avoiding conflicts of interest, ensuring that outside interests, affiliations, or activities do not
    influence, or appear to influence, decision-making, research activities, or job performance

Exhibit good CITIZENSHIP by:

  • Working for the good of the University -furthering its goals of learning, discovery, and engagement
  • Managing natural resources prudently, supporting conservation efforts and recycling programs
  • Protecting and promoting campus safety for individuals as well as property
  • Recognizing that the campus community can be helped or hurt by one's actions.

 

Take RESPONSIBILITY for our actions and behavior by:

  • Pursuing excellence and continuous improvement
  • Adhering to all applicable standards of professional practice and professional codes of ethics
  • Adhering to University policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and applicable laws
  • Exercising fiscal accountability and appropriate controls when conducting University business
  • Exercising good stewardship of University assets and ensuring University property and resources
    are used effectively and efficiently
